Swampers, Alligators, Craziness... Oh My!

There is nothing new about Aaron's infatuation with Alligators!
YUCK!
However, some brilliant person decided to air a television show called "Swamp People".

This is what we look forward to every week.
I'll be honest, I hated it at first. But you have to know my fella. Animal Planet is his favorite TV channel. Me... Not so much. However, if you came to our home, you would more than likely find it on that channel. I will admit, a lot of times I do find things interesting. I just prefer to watch Lifetime Network!

Back to Swamp People!

-Swamp People is a documentary television series on the History Channel that follows Cajuns living in the Atchafalaya River Basin swamp in Louisiana, USA who hunt American Alligators for a living. The series premiered August 22, 2010 and set a ratings record for History.[1]

Alligator season in Louisiana begins on the first Wednesday in September and lasts 30 days. In this time limit, many of the alligator hunters, following a tradition dating back 300 years, earn most of their yearly income in a high risk vocation dependent on experience and the whims of weather within strict regulation by wildlife laws.- [via]
I find this show amusing!
Meet some of the swampers.
Troy.
Our favorite Hunter!
"Shoot Em' Shoot Em'" .... "Ahh we gotta tree shaker, it's a tree shaker"
If you were a fly on the wall, you would here Aaron and I repeat this day in and out around our home!
It's become a natural thing to talk like Troy around the house. Its pretty entertaining.
Matter of fact, my family was pretty amused by my Troy reenactment.

Bruce.
Aaron has a hard time watching this fella, only because he is sure of Bruce's Comando-ness - overalls.
He mentions something about Bruce not wearing underwear every week. However, this man... is insane!
Why? Because he hunts them on his own. Besides having his dog with him, there is no one else in his boat with him. CRAZY fool!

Willie.
I like to mimic Willie, because this guy hunts with his dad. His dad, Junior is the captain of the boat and sometimes likes to pull the gun out at the wrong time. How so? Well, example... if the string that is tied to the tree which has bait on it and now in the alligators mouth that is on land.... Willie has to go and somehow get the gator out of the woods and closer to the water... [make sense?]Junior gets overly excited and tries to shoot the gator... Well, with this show, I've learned an Alligators skull is like metal. When a bullet hits it, it sometimes will shatter. This happens often with Willie & his father. Which brings Willie to be the victim.. Yes, he gets shot.
"I mean it's okay. I don't like to be shot, but as long as it's not hurting too bad, I keep on going.. I don't stop for a bullet." -[Jess]

Junior.
Willie's Dad

Now that a few of the Swampers have been introduced, are you ready to see some action?
[I'm not crazy, I promise.]

{Note: yes, I am at work blogging & creating this post. Don't judge. But the mail man just busted me on youtubing Swamp People. I'm a bit embarrassed. We just had a 15 minute conversation on this show... that crazy, huh?}

Oh man--this sounds JUST like my boyfriend and I. He LOVES this show and tunes in every Thursday for the newest (while I'm watching the AI eliminations) and then I am stuck watching it a few more times on the weekend. It really is amusing and I like all the craziness and accents--it's just HE doesn't have to know that ;) haha

I don't care for this show -- mostly because I can't understand ANYTHING these crazies say. seriously...when there aren't subtitles, it is really hard for me to figure out what the heck is going on. Therefore I lose interest VERY quickly lol
The best part of this show for me is that The Husband finds it amusing and laughs a LOT. That makes it totally worth it lol =)

I must admit that I love this show! Maybe because I'm from South Louisiana. I swear we don't all sound that way or hunt for our food :)
