Hi! I'm Cassie from Cassie's Crazy Life! I was asked to do a guest post by Jessica after she did a post about inspiring someone by guest blogging. This is my first guest post ever to write. Hope you enjoy!
I thought long and hard about what I should post about, and decided to share my story of how I obtained my two fur babies. I love all animals, except for cats, and I would like them if my eyes would allow me too. I'm allergic! :/ I would pick up every homeless animal off the side of the road if I could! I can't stand the thought of an animal going hungry just because someone didn't want them. Maybe I should have been a vet? Who knows? Everyone has their own stance on how to change the world, and mine is to save the animals! :)
First, I will briefly share the story of how I obtained my little dog Mia.
Meet Mia!
My third year of college I decided that I wanted a dog of my own. My parents had dogs at home, but I had just moved into my first rental house, and just had to have one of my own! I started out looking in the paper and of course, I wanted the smallest, most expensive dogs that they had. I realized really fast that I wasn't going to get what I wanted. I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with buying a full bread dog from an individual! Those dogs need homes too! I have one at my parents house that came out of the paper actually! Anyway, since I wasn't going to get what I wanted being a broke college student, I decided to go to the local animal shelter and see what they had! I walked into the the building, and this is the first thing that I saw!
(I look so young!)
This was after I got her home, but still, how could anyone not want that? She was found outside of some apartments where pets weren't allowed and had been there for a few days. Someone took her to the animal shelter and I was the first person to see her! It was love at first sight! ;) From that point forward, I decided that I would always rescue my animals! The feeling of appreciation that I receive from her is wonderful! I feel like she needs me! I'm sure many of you feel that way about your little fur babies, but I like to think that because I rescued her from the animal shelter, that I did her a favor! I have no idea what kind of dog she is, but that doesn't matter! I still love her the same!
My other little fur baby is pretty unique!
Meet Pixie!
Meet Pixie!
Yes, I have a pet squirrel! :)
Pixie was a little baby when I got her. Her mother had chewed through the vent on the side of someones attic and was running around the attic. The home owners were very annoyed by this, so when the momma squirrel ran out, they boarded the hole up. Little did they know, this little girl was in there! She cried for three days wanting her mother, but her mom couldn't get to her. So, my boyfriend climbed up on a ladder and got this little girl out. I'm not sure if any of you know this or not, but once you touch a wild animal, many times the mother will reject the baby. So, J brought this little girl home to me because he knows how passionate I am about helping animals live! She was very weak and sick. I did my research and fed her puppy formula with a dropper and nursed her back to health. Jeremy built a cage for her that she stays in during the day. We let her out to run around when we are home. She jumps around and plays just like the dogs! You do have to watch her, or she'll chew up wooden things in the house. Otherwise, she acts just like any other animal that you have in the house! I don't let her outside because she doesn't know that there are bad things out there. I'm scared a predator will eat her and she won't even know what's coming! Here she is as a baby:
So now that you know my stories of how I got both of my little animals, I should get to my point. My point is that there isn't anything wrong with buying an animal from somewhere. Those animals need homes too! Before you do so though, take a look around and see if there are other options that you could take. We all like to get things for little or no cost at all right? When you adopt an animal, most of the time they will even help you pay for or completely pay for the pet to get spayed or neutered! There are great organizations that will help you find one if you need help also! Many of our local human societies and animal shelters that are overflowing with poor animals that need a home. There are several websites that will help you find an animal locally too! Pedigree , Adopt A Pet, and Pet Finder are all great places to start! I could go on for days, but I think you get the hint!
Next time you decide that you want a new baby, think twice before you go out and buy one from an individual. There's some sweet face out there that needs you as their parent! Wouldn't you want to be adopted too??
**Thanks for letting me guest post Jessica!**
Did that not bring happiness to your heart?
Thank YOU, Cassie for inspiring me personally to look around for other options. Aaron and I talk about buying a dog all the time however, we've never really considered adopting. So thank you for opening my heart to bigger options.
Mia & Pixie are adorable. You must be a proud Mama.
Question: How do Mia & Pixie get along?
